OGRe.net            Peterborough Drumlin Field

Contributed by Peter Rotheisler

The site is located 3km east of Keene adjacent to the north
shore of Rice Lake. The site is an abandoned gravel pit. Drumlins
can be seen from many points along Highways 7, 2, 34, 134 and
all other backroads in between.

The Peterborough drumlin Field covers ~900km2 on a Paleozoic
limestone plain and is one of the largest drumlin fields in southern
Ontario. The drumlins are composed of well sorted and
stratified sand and gravel. Till also makes up many of the drumlins.
